Learning Connections  2013-2014 Multi-District Projects: Progress Report

For the 2013-2014 school year, the Learning Connections project manager initiated a new project option for school districts interested in pursuing multi-district projects leveraging technology in innovative ways to promote teacher capacity for developing 21st century learning skills in their students. The purpose of these new projects is threefold: to provide unique opportunities for teachers to work with and learn from their peers in other districts, to build upon and deepen the collaboration and sharing currently occurring within individual district LC projects, and to open up possibilities for students from different districts to work together. The funding for these multi-district projects provides for both the teacher release time and the acquisition of technology needed to carry out the projects as outlined in the submitted project plans.

This progress report reviews each of the three multi-district projects that were funded for the 2013-2014 school year. For each project, it presents an overview of the funded proposal (all proposals were jointly submitted by two school districts); summarizes any changes in project plans made since the proposal was submitted in the fall of 2013; and reviews project progress, successes achieved, and obstacles encountered up to the end of January 2014. It ends with a few summary remarks and a preliminary recommendation based upon the limited project experiences to date.

For the 2013-2014 school year, Learning Connections (LC) launched a new initiative for school districts interested in pursuing multi-district projects geared to building teacher capacity for improving students’ literacy and numeracy with the aid of new technologies. The projects were intended to provide unique opportunities for teachers to work with and learn from their peers in other districts, to build upon and deepen the collaboration and sharing currently occurring within individual district LC projects and to open up possibilities for students from different districts to work together.
