  • Pilot Applications 

    ABEL’s mandate includes measuring the effectiveness of new tools and resources for teaching, training and learning. ABEL invites its members who have interest in using new and emerging tools and applications to participate in ABEL Research Applications pilots. For information on how to become an ABEL member, please click here. The purpose of the pilots is to determine how best to implement new learning technologies and applications, identify training and support needs and provide evidence of enhanced teaching, training and learning value. 

    By taking part in the pilot, participants agree to: 

    1. Register in the pilot program – see below for details 
    2. Attend the pilot training session if provided 
    3. Use the pilot application within the dates indicated 
    4. Contact abelinfo@yorku.ca during the pilot if any problems arise  
    5. Respond to the ABEL program for feedback and input during the pilot 
    6. Complete a survey at the end of the pilot to provide feedback. 
    7. Priority support for these tools will be provided to those listed as part of the pilot program.

    Pilot Applications:   

    Mygazine 

    Mygazines empowers marketers, publishers, professionals, educators and corporations with the tools to produce, distribute and track their content on any web enabled device. The tool was presented at ASI2011 and was used by the ABEL Program Office to produce the Professional Learning Program (PLP) for 2011-12 (http://mygazines.abelearn.ca/issue/39887). 

    Pilot Timeline 

    This pilot will run from September 2011 to June 2012.  During this time you are expected to use the tool and be able to provide feedback.  A survey will be sent out at the end of May for your general feedback about the tool. 

    The pilot is now closed to registration. 

     

    Edmodo 

    Edmodo provides a safe and easy way for your class to connect and collaborate, share content, and access homework, grades and school notices.  Edmodo can also be used to connect with your peers with Edmodo communities to instantly connect teachers to a global network of educators. 

     

    Pilot Timeline 

    This pilot will run from February 2012 to May 2012.  During this time you are expected to use the tool and be able to provide feedback.  A survey will be sent out at the end of May for your general feedback about the tool.

    Mahara  

    Mahara is a fully featured electronic portfolio, weblog, resume builder and social networking system, connecting users and creating online communities. Mahara is designed to provide users with the tools to create a personal and professional learning environment.  This pilot will focus on using Mahara to create personal professional portfolios. 

    Training Date 

    Thursday February 23rd 2012, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm 

    Pilot Timeline 

    This pilot will run from March 2012 to May 2012.  During this time you are expected to use the tool and be able to provide feedback.  A survey will be sent out at the end of May for your general feedback about the tool. 

     

    Location for training sessions 

    The Pilot Tools Training sessions take place at York University on the 3rd floor of the York Research Tower.  Information regarding location and parking will be sent to participants 2 days prior to the session.  

     

    A minimum of 4 registrants are required for the session to run at York University.  If the minimum is not met, you will be contacted and other arrangements will be made to accommodate your professional learning.
