Video Champion Awards
 
 

The first annual Video Champion Awards, sponsored by Tandberg, has started their call for entries. The awards are open to organizations in the United States and Canada currently using videoconferencing technology.

 

The theme for the videos is to show new and creative ways video communication technology can be used by other organizations, teams or individuals to achieve their goals. The judging panel is looking for videos in the categories of business innovation, environmental impact, telework, education/training and work/life balance. The title “Video Champion of the Year” as well as prizes will be awarded to the participant with the video that displays the best approach for using video to achieve results.

Toronto Aerospace Museum
 
 

 
In May 2008, a video conference was held between Vaughn Secondary School and the Toronto Aerospace Museum to allow students to learn about Canadian Aviation History and visit the museum without leaving the school.
 
This virtual tour of the museum was such a success that Vaughn SS and the Toronto Aerospace Museum will be holding another video conference on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 from 9:00am to 10:00am.

ORION/ CANARIE Summit  
ORION/CANARIE Summit: November 3 - 4, 2008. November 3 - 4, 2008
 

UPDATE: On November 3 and 4, ORION and CANARIE co-hosted a national summit that focused on research and innovation enabled by new and advanced technologies. At the summit, Bob Gagne, CIO for York University, won the ORION Leadership Award of Merit. The award recognized his leadership in advanced education and research networks.

Video Conference
 
 

Celebrated author and winner of the 2008 Commonwealth Writer’s Prize, Lawrence Hill, will be giving a live interactive reading of his latest novel The Book of Negroes to students from across Ontario and Canada.

The event, hosted by ABEL, was streamed over the internet to schools across Canada over the CANARIE and ORION networks. ABEL will also be setting up a Book of Negros FACTION blog to which Lawrence Hill has agreed to respond after the event for up to two weeks
